Infrastructure for independent publishing

The web was built so that anyone could publish. Somewhere along the way, publishing became something you rent.

Serey is infrastructure for independent publishing, built on a simple idea: the person who makes the work should own it, and should be able to prove it.

What went wrong

Creators today do not own their platforms. They occupy them.

  • They pay a tax on their own audience. Substack takes 10% of subscription revenue, indefinitely, from a relationship the creator built themselves.
  • Reach is decided elsewhere. On most platforms an algorithm determines who sees a post. Creators write for the ranking system as much as for their readers.
  • The rules change without notice. Policies shift, monetisation is withdrawn, accounts are suspended. Audiences built over years can disappear with a single decision by someone the creator has never met.
  • The business model is misaligned. Platforms funded by advertising need attention and data, not good work. What is best for the platform is often not what is best for the writer or the reader.
  • Nothing is portable. Leaving usually means starting again. The audience, the archive and the search traffic stay behind.

None of this is accidental. It follows directly from who controls the infrastructure. Solving it properly means changing that, not adding another feature.

What we believe

  • Ownership should be a technical fact, not a promise. A company saying it will not take your work is worth less than an architecture where it cannot.
  • Authorship should be provable by anyone. Not attested by a platform, but verifiable independently, permanently, by anyone who cares to check.
  • Leaving should always be possible. A platform that is hard to leave is not earning its keep. We would rather be chosen than relied upon.
  • Privacy should be the default. We collect as little as we can, because data that is never collected cannot be leaked, sold, or demanded.
  • Infrastructure should be durable. Work that people depend on should not rest on a single server, a single provider, or a single point of failure. We build so that no one link can take everything down.

These are not marketing positions. Each one is reflected in how the platform is built, as described below.

What we have built

Serey is an infrastructure for building publishing platforms. A creator selects the modules they need, and runs them from one place under their own domain.

The product

  • Publishing: website builder, blog, video, podcast, and communities
  • Monetisation: subscriptions, shop, tips, and sponsorships
  • Independent platforms with custom domains and their own rules
  • Integrations with newsletter tools, payment systems, and partners

The technology behind it

This is what separates Serey from other all-in-one tools, and it is difficult to copy:

  • Proof of authorship. Serey runs its own blockchain. Every post is recorded with a fingerprint of the content, a timestamp and the author’s account, so authorship can be proven independently of any company, including ours.
  • Decentralised storage. Media is stored across the Sia network, encrypted and split across thirty independent providers. No provider can read it, and no single company can switch it off.
  • Permanence by choice. Creators can publish to Arweave, where content is stored permanently and cannot be removed by anyone, including us.
  • Genuine portability. Creators can export their content, subscriber list and site at any time. Paid subscribers sit in the creator’s own payment account, so they move too.

Competitors can match features. They cannot easily match an architecture where the company is not in control of the creator's work.

Where we are today

  • Around 150 posts published every day, roughly 4,500 a month
  • More than 10,000 registered users
  • Around 7,500 monthly visitors across all platforms and connected domains, excluding traffic we believe to be automated
  • Live products: web platform, Ubuntu Touch app in the OpenStore, our own blockchain and block explorer
  • Integrations live: Stripe, iDEAL, Bakong, USDC, USDT, EmailOctopus, Kit
  • Paid development work delivered for external clients

Serey is not a concept. The platform is live, creators are publishing on it, and the technology described above is in production.

On revenue. Serey began as a blockchain-based publishing platform, where earnings came from tokens rather than payments. We introduced conventional payments, including cards and iDEAL, in the second quarter of 2026, and have paying platforms on the service since then. Subscription revenue is therefore recent by design, and the commercial model has only been live for a matter of months. Detailed figures are available on request.

Market

The creator economy is among the fastest growing sectors globally, and is widely projected to exceed several hundred billion dollars within this decade. Most creators remain underserved, paying for fragmented tools while building on platforms they do not own.

Serey targets the segment that cares most about ownership: independent journalists, writers, and communities who have already learned what happens when a platform changes its mind.

Business model

Serey earns from platform subscription plans, and a small commission on commerce transactions.

  • Subscriptions to creators: Serey currently takes no commission, so creators keep what their readers pay them. This is a deliberate growth decision, and a clear advantage over Substack’s 10%.
  • Platform plans: creators pay a monthly subscription for their own platform and the modules they use.
  • Commerce: a small commission on shop transactions.

The model aligns our revenue with creator success. We grow when creators build something worth paying for.

Growth strategy

Our plan combines partnerships that bring audiences with us, and tooling that removes the cost of switching.

  • Partnerships with established publishers and technology platforms who bring their existing audiences with them
  • Partnerships with complementary tools: newsletter platforms, schedulers, domain registrars, and AI writing tools
  • Referral and partner programmes that turn existing creators into a distribution channel
  • Geographic focus on Europe, North America and Southeast Asia
  • In development: migration tools that let creators move from WordPress, Substack and similar platforms without losing their content, subscribers or search traffic
  • In development: federation through ActivityPub, connecting Serey creators to existing audiences across the wider open social web

Why now

Trust in centralised platforms is falling, and creators are actively looking for alternatives. The infrastructure that makes real ownership possible, including decentralised storage and affordable permanent archiving, has only recently become practical to build on.

Serey has been building this since [year], and the technology is now in production rather than in development.

Team and company

Serey Platform LLC is registered in Wyoming, United States, with operations in Cambodia and Europe. The structure supports international payments, partnerships and growth.

What we are looking for

Serey is entering a phase focused on international growth and ecosystem expansion. We welcome conversations with investors and strategic partners who can contribute through capital, networks, or long-term collaboration.

  • Alignment with our belief that creators should own what they publish
  • Networks, partnerships or market access that accelerate creator adoption
  • Long-term thinking about the creator economy
