The Spectacle, a 100.94-carat diamond, the largest polished diamond in Russian history, went under the hammer at an auction in Geneva, auction house Christie's said.

The diamond was sold for 12.84 million Swiss francs (more than 1 billion rubles). Before the sale experts estimated the price of the lot at 12-18 million Swiss francs.

The gem was put up for auction by Russia's ALROSA group of companies. According to its information, the diamond was created from a rare diamond weighing 207.29 carats, mined in 2016 at the Zarnitsa pipe in Yakutia.

The diamond was made for more than a year and a half. It became the largest in the history of Russian diamond cutting and received "the highest grades" from experts at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) laboratory in terms of color and clarity - D, which means perfectly colorless, and IF - without internal inclusions, ALROSA said.
