New studies show that gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth are at risk of getting involved in many substances These gay or bisexual alcohol, nicotine and marijuana are increasing the risk of using substances. A new study by Oregon State University has found that young people who have been identified as homosexuals.  It is according to these studies which were published only in the Drug and Alcohol Dependence Magazine. This means that they are more likely to use more than one substance in comparison to their heterosexual peers; this study has also shown that these young people are at high risk of using polysubstance. These meanings mean that they are facing all the extra risks, all said by Dermody. This figure definitely shows that the use of polysubstance is an issue among many young people who identify as sexual minorities.  It is according to the assistant professor of psychological science school at the Liberal Arts College of the OSU. He has suggested that we need to look beyond the average to affect the factors affecting the use of substances in this population. But there is a difference between the sub-groups of youth who identify as sexual minorities. Its sexual minority is the umbrella term for those who identify any sexual identity other than heterosexual, or who report similar sex attraction or this behavior, for the purposes of the study, the researchers focused on youth who are gay and is known as gay or bisexual.  This is Dermody studies risky behaviors such as alcohol and its nicotine use with the goal of better understanding factors that it’s contribute to the substances use and how best to intervene when the use is problematic. There among youth, alcohol, marijuana and this nicotine are the three most commonly used drugs. That is a concern of youth who has used those substances is at risk of negative health and these social outcomes, including addiction and poor cognitive, social and academic function. Its recent of research has been shown that this sexual minority youth reported to nearly three times more substance use than its heterosexual youth. Dermody said that this inequality can be particularly due to stress based on sexual exploitation, violence and exploitation in their sexual minority situation. The study was conducted to understand the risks associated with poly substance use, or the use of three or more types of drugs, among sexual minority youth. Dermody said there is area of research that is largely unexpected.
