Everyone is excited about Manchester United signing a new coach for the team and we all believe it’s the new beginning of a new era which is true but my question IS IT THE BEGINNING OF A NEW GOOD ERA ?.
Erik Ten Hag and his assistant Mitchell van der Gaag, we can’t deny the fact that Erik did a marvelous job with those average players he met at Ajax, he brought the like of De ligt, Ziyech, De Jong, van de Beek and a look more player to their full potential, making the world know who they are. Playing with the average set of players and doing well in the champions league, he took Ajax to the semi finals in the 2018/2019 season which was the second season of his appointment. He won against the holding champions Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu and also won against Juventus that same year. He would have made it to the finals that year but a second half hat trick by Lucas Moura ended their hope and that was the first time Ajax will reach the semi finals since 1997.
He won his first trophy as a manager in the 2018/2019 KNVB cup and 10 days later he won the league, he brought back the double to the club. Ten Hag won Ajax 20th KNVB cup and also become the first fastest manager to reach 100 wins with the club in 128 matches. He won the Ajax Eredivise 3 times (back to back), two KNVB cups and 1 Johan Cruyff cup during his time at Ajax.
Before he was appointed as Ajax coach, he also coached Go ahead Eagles, Bayern Munich II and also Utrecht. In Go ahead Eagles he had a 48.72% coaching rate where he lead them to 39 matches he won 19 lost 10 and played 10 draws. Bayern Munich II he had a coaching successful rate of 66.67%, he won 48, 10 draws and 14 losses. He moved on to Utrecht and he had 50.45% and he had lost more matches than any club he had coached. He was with Ajax for 215 matches and he won 159 games, 27 draws and 29 losses. One thing Ten Hag all this past club he has been the manager have in common is their scoring ability which surprises me because he was a defender during his time as a player.
Ten Hag has a lot of job to do in restructuring Manchester United as reports say a total of 12 players might be leaving the club this summer and considering how bad they played in the just-finished season. The report also says he will be giving £200m to bring in new signing to the club.
Ten Hag said in his first interview as Manchester United manager on Monday which was also his first time at Old Trafford, that he will be bringing three major signings this summer. He also talks about who will be the captain of the team. He is willing to give Donny Van der Beek another chance to redeem himself.
A lot of players have been linked but no one has been signed yet. Nunez of Benfica, De Jong of Ajax, Pau Torres of Villarreal, Timber of Ajax and also Eriksen might be seen putting on the Red Devils shirt next season.
Manchester United will pay £2.5m to Ajax as compensation. Ten Hag was unveiled on Monday but will be going on vacation which I believe he will be working from where ever he is with the club stuff. He said he will first address his team at the end of June when he's back from his vacation.
He quote “ I admire both Pep and Klopp work but Era comes to end” which is a strong message. He says he is ready to compete in the league and bring Manchester United back to where they belong.
