There is a phrase people say on Friday, TGIF, which translates to: Thank Goodness it's Friday! The gist of this is that the hard work of the week is done, and now the fun of the weekend can begin. Work can seem hard, oppressive and often even stifling to our happiness, but we need to change the way we think to overcome this perceived plight. We need to be more thankful for what we have. A new national poll showed that 70% of Americans felt disconnected at work. That is a huge number. This effectively means 7 out of 10 of your coworkers is not feeling engaged, challenged or useful at work. How can we change our mindset to overcome this? Are our jobs really that bad? Thankfulness for what we have can be hard in a day in age in which we are marketed to relentlessly, and social media blasts the adventures our friends go on without documenting their struggles. We must identify root causes of our internal strife. Thankfulness is the key to overcoming self pity. Consider the points below: 1. What does this job provide to my family? 2. If I didn't have this job what would my life look like? 3. What benefits does this job provide for my family? 4. What else would I be doing with my time if I was not working? The bills keep coming even if we lose our job. Most jobs today are not life threating. Insurance and benefits save workers thousands of dollars. Reconsider the usefulness of your job, focus on the postive, and be thankful for what you have, not what you don't.
