The plane carrying the Moroccan footballers landed in the capital Rabat on Tuesday local time. Later, the open-top bus carrying Ashraf Hakimi circled the main road of Rabat.
At that time, thousands of Moroccan citizens welcomed the members of the Qatar World Cup fourth-placed team with national flags, banging bets and chanting slogans.
As the underdog, Morocco showed one surprise after another in Qatar. On their way to the semi-finals, they beat Belgium, the second-ranked team in FIFA, in the group stage.
The African side beat 2010 champions Spain in the last sixteen. The indomitable footballers continued their dream journey by defeating the mighty Portugal in the quarter finals. The team lost to defending champions France in the semi-finals.
After this performance in the World Cup, Team Morocco got a special welcome back home. A sea of people was seen on the road to welcome the national team.
People roared to welcome the Atlas lions. Women, children, old people came down the road to witness the rare moment.
