This hadith teaches us that showing mercy to the creatures on earth, whether they are human beings, animals, plants or inanimate objects, is a way to receive Allah's mercy in this world and the hereafter.
Compassion is expressed not only in words but also in actions, such as helping the needy, feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, protecting the environment, and avoiding harm and cruelty.
Mercy is also a sign of wisdom, as Allah says in the Qur'an:
"And We certainly gave Luqman wisdom [and said] Give thanks to Allah." And he who gives thanks gives thanks for himself.
