Liverpool have been suffering from players being injured. The injury affected the whole team and not just the midfield, the defence was also affected. Some of the defenders were injured, players like Konate and Matip picked up an injury towards the start of the season which made things difficult for Liverpool in the defence.
Joe Gomez was the one covering up for this injured players, but after going 12 months without playing games you do not expect him to perform as usual, he made so many mistakes in the defence and was just there as a cover up for the main time.
The return of Matip was like a relief for Liverpool because they could not bear it any longer. Matip was known to be the right pair with Van Djik and playing with Gomez was not easy for him. Matip is back and is expected to start playing games for Liverpool, he is strong now and will be taking back his position in the defence.
