Pacer Tanjim Hasan has been called up to Bangladesh's Test squad for the first time. Another pacer, Taskin Ahmed, is out of the two-Test series against Zimbabwe due to injury.
Liton Das is not in the squad as he has gone to Pakistan to play in the PSL. Mahidul Islam is in the first Test squad announced by the BCB today along with Zaker Ali as wicketkeeper-batsman. Experienced Mushfiqur Rahim has been brought back to the team. Mushfiqur could not play in the West Indies tour due to injury.
Pacer Khaled Ahmed has been brought back to the team in Taskin's absence. Nahid Rana and Hasan Mahmud are the remaining two pacers in the team. Along with two spinners Mehedi Hasan Miraj and Taijul Islam, there are four specialist pacers in the team.
The first Test will start on April 20 at the Sylhet International Stadium. The second Test will be in Chittagong on April 28.
Regarding Taskin's injury, BCB doctor Debashish Chowdhury said, "Taskin is currently undergoing rehabilitation due to a problem with his left Achilles tendon, he will not be available for the series."
Tanzim has previously played ODIs and T20Is for Bangladesh. The 22-year-old pacer made his international debut in an ODI in September 2023. In addition to taking 13 wickets in 10 ODIs, Tanzim has taken 24 wickets in 18 T20Is.
