One such memorable event for the Bengali nation and the people of Bangladesh is the incident of 21st February 1952. On this day, the Surya children of the Bengali nation sacrificed their lives to preserve their mother tongue. Therefore, the significance and importance of Ekushey February in the national life of Bengalis is immense. The Bayanna language movement which aroused the national consciousness among the East Bengal and Bangladeshis, gave birth to Bengali nationalism later on. It was this nationalist consciousness that led the Bengali nation to achieve self-government.
