Hill Tracts Peace Accord

The independence of any independent sovereign state is meaningful only when political and economic activities operate independently. After independence, the problem of CHT became a complex problem as an obstacle in the way of progress of the country. Later, various steps taken by the government started a new horizon in solving the problem of Chittagong Hill Tracts. An agreement called 'Peace Accord' was executed at 10:40 am on December 2, 1996 in the office of the then Prime Minister of the then Awami League government with the peace forces engaged in suicidal activities for almost two decades. The Hill Tracts Peace Accord is a milestone on the path to lasting peace. A comprehensive peace treaty was signed for the first time in centuries. It is the earnest expectation of all, regardless of the Bengali-Hill Dalmat, that it will cross the wide ladder of peace and move forward towards the next generation. And it will also ensure the welfare and socio-economic development of the country and the nation. This agreement must be properly implemented, regardless of party affiliation.
