Detergents are used to remove dirt, oil from skin and clothes, etc. detergent have the same properties as soap, but they are effective in hard water. Detergents are generally sodium or potassium salts of long chain carboxylic acids. Detergents are generally soluble in hard water. For this reason, detergent are used for cleaning clothes in hard water. Dish washing detergents are commonly in liquid form.
