পিয়াজ বাংলাদেশে একটি অতিপরিচিত মসলাজাতীয় ফসল। সুস্বাদু খাবার রান্না করতে পেঁয়াজের বিকল্প বাংলাদেশে কোন কিছু কল্পনাই করা যায় না। সুতরাং বাংলাদেশ সরকার সবসময়ই চেষ্টা করে পেঁয়াজের মূল্য সাধারণ মানুষের ক্রয় ক্ষমতার মধ্যে রাখতে। শুধুমাত্র গত মৌসুমের পূর্বমুহূর্তে ছাড়া বাংলাদেশ সরকার সবসময় এই বিষয়ে সফল ছিল। কিন্তু গত মৌসুমের পূর্বমুহূর্তে পেঁয়াজের মূল্য এত পরিমাণে বেড়ে যায় যে সাধারণ মানুষকে পেঁয়াজ ছাড়াই তরকারি রান্না করে খেতে হয়েছে। পেঁয়াজের মূল্য সব থেকে বেশি যখন হয় তাও কেজি প্রতি ১০০ টাকার বেশি হতে দেখিনি কখনোই। কিন্তু গত পেয়াজের মৌসুমের পূর্বমুহূর্তে পেঁয়াজের মূল্য হঠাৎ করেই কেজিপ্রতি ৩০০ থেকে ৫০০ টাকা পর্যন্ত উঠে যায়। যা বাংলাদেশের সর্বকালের তুলনায় পেয়াজের রেকর্ড পরিমাণ দাম।
Onion is a well-known spice crop in Bangladesh. An alternative to onion for cooking delicious food is unimaginable in Bangladesh. So the Bangladesh government always tries to keep the price of onion within the purchasing power of the common man. With the exception of just before last season, the Bangladesh government has always been successful in this regard. But just before last season, the price of onions went up so much that the common man had to cook and eat curry without onions. I have never seen the price of onion go above Rs 100 per kg even when it is the highest. But just before the last onion season, the price of onion suddenly went up to Rs 300 to Rs 500 per kg. Which is the record price of onion compared to all time in Bangladesh.
পেঁয়াজের এই অস্বাভাবিক মূল্যবৃদ্ধির পেছনে অনেক কারণ জড়িত তার মধ্যে অন্যতম দুইটা কারণ হলো বাংলাদেশ যেসব দেশ থেকে পেঁয়াজ আমদানি করে সে সকল দেশ বাংলাদেশে হঠাৎ করেই পেঁয়াজ রপ্তানি বন্ধ করে দেয় এবং এদেশে অসাধু ব্যবসায়ীর পিয়াজের অবৈধ সিন্ডিকেট করা। পিয়াজের এই অস্বাভাবিক মূল্য যত দিন স্থায়ী হয়ছিল, এদেশের সাধারণ মানুষ পেঁয়াজ কিনতে অক্ষম হয়ে পড়ে কারণ পেঁয়াজের এত বেশি মূল্য তাদের ক্রয় ক্ষমতার বাইরে ছিল। অবশেষে টিসিবি খোলাবাজারে স্বল্পমূল্যে পেঁয়াজ বিক্রি শুরু করলে এবং নতুন মৌসুমের পেঁয়াজ বাজারে আসতে শুরু করলে পেঁয়াজের মূল্য কমতে কমতে সাধারণ মানুষের ক্রয় ক্ষমতার মধ্যে আসতে শুরু করে। পিয়াজের এই অস্বাভাবিক মূল্যবৃদ্ধির কারণে সাধারণ মানুষ যে পরিমাণ ভোগান্তি সহ্য করেছে তারা কখনোই বলতে পারবে বলে মনে হয় না।
One of the many reasons behind this abnormal increase in the price of onion is that all the countries from which Bangladesh imports onions suddenly stop exporting onions to Bangladesh and illegal syndication of onions by unscrupulous traders in this country. As long as this unusual price of onion lasted, the common people of this country became unable to buy onion because the price of onion was so high that they could not afford it. Eventually when TCB started selling onions in the open market at low prices and new season onions started coming in the market, the price of onions started coming down and the common man could afford it. The amount of suffering that ordinary people have suffered because of this abnormal rise in the price of onions never seems to be known.
কিন্তু পিয়াজের এই অস্বাভাবিক মূল্যবৃদ্ধি আমার পরিবারে কোনো বিরূপ প্রভাব ফেলতে পারেনি। আমার বাবা একজন ছোট কৃষক। এবং তিনি প্রতি বছর বিভিন্ন রকমের ফসল ফলানের পাশাপাশি অল্প পরিমানে আমাদের পরিবারের জন্য বিভিন্ন রকমের সবজি এবং মসলা চাষ করেন। যার ফলে বছরের কোন সময়ই বাজার থেকে আমাদের সবজি ও মসলা কিনতে হয়না বললেই চলে। এতে করে যেকোন সবজি ও মসলার অস্বাভাবিক মূল্যবৃদ্ধি যেমন আমাদের পরিবারের উপর তেমন কোন প্রভাব ফেলতে পারেনা, তেমনি আমরা সবসময় সবথেকে টাটকা এবং সতেজ সবজি খেতে পারি। আর এই কৃতিত্ব সম্পূর্ণই আমার বাবার।
But this unusual increase in the price of onions did not have any adverse effect on my family. My father is a small farmer. And he grows a variety of vegetables and spices for our family in small quantities every year, as well as a variety of crops. As a result, we do not have to buy vegetables and spices from the market at any time of the year. In this way, just as the abnormal rise in the price of any vegetable or spice does not have such an effect on our family, so we can always eat the freshest and freshest vegetables. And this achievement is entirely my father's.
