Sometime ago, before I gained admission into tertiary institution, I met some of my old secondary school classmates and that experience taught me a lesson. That day, I was at my Daddy's shop where he sells building materials and I was not so in the "best of me".
The weather was unusually hot, I had a flip-flop on and my natural hair styled normally. Seeing those big girls of my classmates from afar, I resolved to avoid them.
Like it's been 4 years since we left secondary school and I was still looking the same. whereas, these girls were all glammed up, looking good and most importantly, in higher institution. But dear me was the opposite and worst of all, I still had my phone from 4 years back with me and this phone was even on rubber support.
So seeing them first, my reaction was "do not call them". So in order to avoid feeling less of myself, I just bowed my head to the ground waiting for them to walk pass.
But in that state, it struck me then I was entertaining inferiority complex, that I was doubting my process, failing to put to practice all the teachings on self-esteem and Christ sufficiency I have received.
So I quickly got up and screamed their names at the top of my voice. They saw me, crossed over and we chatted a little. One of the girls said to me "Bhee, you didn't even change, you are still the same, slim and small".
Oh! what a word. I just laughed knowing my "still the same" was only in stature. After they left, I realised it would have been bad if I had avoided them because I felt less. I was actually happy and grateful for how I acted.
Dear you-in-making, are you proud of your process or you prefer to hide in inferiority because you aren't where you want to be yet? You should step out and enjoy what God is making of you.
Don't feel inferior because after all these years, you are still the same and many has gone ahead of you. Know that as long as God is involved in your process, there are changes taking place in you.
Your physical appearance or marital status may still be the same, but know that the Lord is working on you. Know that you are a work in progress and believe it will all end beautifully. Don't be ashamed of your process, follow it and enjoy it.
God bless you.
