POEM: CAN I SMILE?

Can I smile just to express

The happiness and fulfillment

I feel inside of me today

Even though the mountain stares at me.

 

Can I smile to wave away

The tears and sadness that I've felt

In this wicked and cruel world

Maybe it would ease off the load.

 

Can I smile today and now

Even when the future is unknown

Just to stay on the brighter side

And hope only for the best.

 

Can I smile even with the tears

Gushing down my cheeks and neck

The heavy loads and burden on my head

Trying to make me lose focus.

Can I smile in optimism

That they'll be light in the morning

And darkness will fly and evaporate

And then my smile will never cease.

 

Smile is just an expression

Not of how I feel within

But of how I want to feel

And how I hope my life would be.

 

Can I smile to deceive the enemy

Who hopes and wish that I vanish

From the surface of the Earth and never return

I want to prove him wrong and wrong.

 

Can I smile in appreciation

Just to thank God for everything

Both the things I have today

And for the things I'm yet to have. 

 

I want to smile and never stop 

No matter what life throws at me

Because I know I'm here to win

And leave my impact while I'm gone.

 

Can I smile?
