Siem Reap, Shanxi strengthen tourism, investment ties
Synopsis: Both sides agree to attract more Chinese investors and tourists to Cambodia, especially to Siem Reap, which is an important tourist destination.
A delegation from the Shanxi Provincial Department of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China aims to enhance cooperation in tourism, culture, and investment to boost the number of Chinese tourists to Siem Reap province and promote direct flights between Shanxi and Siem Reap.
Ngov Seng Kak, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap province, on Wednesday held a working meeting with a delegation from the Department of Commerce of Shanxi Province, People’s Republic of China, led by Wang Hongjin, Director of the Shanxi Provincial Department of Commerce.
The meeting was also attended by senior officials from relevant provincial departments and institutions, according to the statement of Siem Reap Provincial Information Department.
On this occasion, Seng Kak warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for their official visit to Cambodia, especially their time spent in Siem Reap.
“Siem Reap Provincial Administration has established strong friendship ties and has previously cooperated with over 30 provinces and cities across China, further enhancing bilateral relations and economic collaboration,” he added.
Taking the opportunity, Seng Kak noted that the provincial administration supports the investment projects of Yunnan Investment Holding Group Co Ltd (YIG), particularly in areas such as tourism development, public security management, traffic management, environmental improvement, and the provision of water and electricity around the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, with a strong focus on trade cooperation.
It may be recalled that Yunnan Investment Holding Group Co Ltd (YIG) is a major Chinese state-owned investor in Cambodia, particularly focused on building infrastructure (most notably the new Siem Reap airport), tourism, and diversified development in agriculture, energy, and technology.
Seng Kak added that the provincial administration will also strengthen cooperation to boost the number of Chinese tourists visiting Siem Reap province and to promote the establishment of direct flights between the two provinces and cities.
In response, Wang Hongjin expressed his great appreciation for the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, especially between Siem Reap and Shanxi province.
He stated that the purpose of the visit to Siem Reap was to explore ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of tourism, culture, and investment, as well as to offer scholarships for students from Siem Reap to pursue their studies in Shanxi Province.
“I believe that this strong relationship will attract more Chinese investors and tourists to Cambodia, especially to Siem Reap, which is an important tourist destination,” he said.
Separately, Minister of Tourism Huot Hak received Mao Deming, Executive Director of the Cambodia Hubei Province Chu Merchants Association, along with representatives from leading tourism companies in Cambodia at the ministry.
According to the MoT’s statement issued yesterday, the purpose of the meeting was to gain a better understanding of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s policies and incentive mechanisms in the tourism sector, and to seek the ministry’s valued recommendations and support for the association’s initiative to attract more Chinese tourists from Hubei Province to Cambodia. This effort is part of the Cambodia-China Tourism Year 2025 framework.

លោកបានបន្ថែមថា “រដ្ឋបាលខេត្តសៀមរាប បានបង្កើតទំនាក់ទំនងមិត្តភាពដ៏រឹងមាំ ហើយពីមុនបានសហការជាមួយខេត្ត-ក្រុងចំនួនជាង 30 នៅទូទាំងប្រទេសចិន ពង្រឹងទំនាក់ទំនងទ្វេភាគី និងកិច្ចសហប្រតិបត្តិការសេដ្ឋកិច្ចបន្ថែមទៀត”។
