With special emphasis on boosting the efficiency and technical skills, the General Secretariat of the Commercial Management Commission of Cambodia (CGMC) has begun organising training programmes for its staff and other stakeholders.

“The purpose of organising the training programmes on gambling technicality is to strengthen the capacity of the CGMC officials on how to manage the technicality of gaming tables, gaming machines and technological systems used in casinos,” the CGMC said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Such efforts will ensure that the casino operations in the country are managed with high levels of transparency and efficiency, the statement emphasised.

One of the training initiatives, which concluded last week, was led by international experts having rich experience in the commercial gambling sector. Representatives of Light & Wonder, a company renowned for manufacturing and supplying gaming equipment and software, also led the sessions.

“Phirun Ros, Secretary General of CGMC, handed over the letters of appreciation to the speakers, who participated in the session.”

The CGMC was established by the Law on the Management of Commercial Gambling to have the authority to propose policies, issue regulations, regulate, control, obtain licences, collect revenue and take necessary measures. Involved in the management of integrated gaming and trading centres.

Recently, the organisation established 13 onsite offices within the licensed casinos to maintain a strict regulatory framework in the sector.

The initiative is in line with the Law on the Management of Commercial Gambling, which was enacted on November 14, 2020, providing a set of strict regulatory frameworks for the sector.

According to CGMC, the move aims to manage and oversee casino operations to ensure compliance with the law with a focus on effectiveness and transparency.

By establishing regulatory offices within casino operations, the CGMC is aiming to improve compliance, streamline administrative procedures, and uphold both national and international standards.

“It will strengthen administrative procedures within the commercial gambling sector, apart from providing guidance to operators and license holders to help them better understand the legal obligations.”

The CGMC also plans to establish a Casino Management System in the near future.

According to the CGMC, the country has granted operating licenses to 195 casinos, but 15 of the licenses have expired, one has been revoked, and one has been suspended.

The Kingdom earned a tax revenue of $63.1 million from casinos and game of chance operators in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 85 percent, according to the latest data released by CGMC.
