Kylian Mbappe shrugs off Emiliano Martinez's 'futile' taunts

When questioned about comments made by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez during the World Cup final, France star Kylian Mbappe stated he won't "spend energy on such pointless things."

During his team's celebrations in the locker room in Qatar, Martinez asked for a moment of mourning for Mbappe and posed with a figurine of the player.

Mbappe told RMC Sport that "celebrations are not my concern."

Martinez, who also made a crude gesture with the trophy for the competition's best goalkeeper after Argentina's shootout victory on December 18 and saved PSG on his return as a result, is reportedly scheduled to return to training with Aston Villa on Thursday. Manager Unai Emery has said he will speak with Martinez about his celebrations.

Mbappe, who had a hat-trick in the championship game, emphasised that he and teammate Lionel Messi of Paris St. Germain will not have any problems as a result of the outcome.

Mbappe said, "I chatted with him after the game and I congratulated him.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him, as it was for me as well, but because I fell short, you should always be a good sportsman.

France has expressed concern at Martinez's actions, which also included many efforts to frighten the penalty-takers for Les Bleus throughout the shootout.

Martinez was dubbed "the most loathed guy" by former France defender Adil Rami, and Fifa should take away his best goalie trophy, according to French politician Karl Olive.

Mbappe scored a late winner against Strasbourg on Wednesday evening as PSG moved eight points clear at the top of Ligue 1.

The striker, 24, won the World Cup's Golden Boot with eight goals and is currently top of the French top-flight scoring charts with 13 goals.
