Binance Officially Enters South Korea After Completing Gopax Acquisition

Seoul – October 16, 2025

In one of the most significant expansion moves in the cryptocurrency sector this year, Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has officially entered the South Korean market after completing the full acquisition of local exchange Gopax.

The announcement follows final approval from South Korea’s Financial Services Commission (FSC), granting Binance legal authorization to provide digital asset trading services directly to Korean users. This marks Binance’s return to the market more than two years after its temporary withdrawal amid tightening financial compliance rules.

🔹Regulatory Compliance and Oversight

The deal comes after lengthy negotiations with the FSC, which required Binance to implement enhanced anti–money laundering (AML) and consumer protection measures before receiving a full operating license. An FSC spokesperson stated that “Binance’s re-entry into South Korea represents a new phase in merging financial innovation with effective oversight,” adding that the platform “has demonstrated a clear commitment to transparency and adherence to local laws.”

🔹Acquisition Details

The Gopax acquisition is estimated to be worth around USD 150 million, according to Korean financial sources. The agreement includes a partial internal restructuring, though Gopax’s local leadership will remain in place to ensure operational continuity and user trust.Binance also announced that it will soon integrate its wallet and account systems with Gopax, enabling users to access greater liquidity, an expanded range of trading pairs, and full Korean won (KRW) deposit and withdrawal support.

🔹Strategic Expansion in Asia

The South Korean entry forms part of Binance’s broader Asian expansion strategy, which has recently included regulatory approvals in Japan and Thailand, as well as strengthened operations in Hong Kong and Singapore.Analysts say South Korea represents “one of the most dynamic crypto markets in the world,” ranking among the top countries for digital asset trading volume and investor engagement.

According to Lee Ji-hoon, a finance expert at Korea University, “Binance’s comeback will reshape local competition, especially for smaller domestic exchanges.”

🔹Impact on the Global Crypto Market

Following the announcement, Binance Coin (BNB) — the exchange’s native token — rose 2.8% within the first few trading hours. Trading volumes in South Korea also jumped 12% compared to the previous day, according to CoinMarketCap data.Market analysts noted that the move could help restore investor confidence after months of global regulatory uncertainty that had weighed heavily on crypto prices across major markets.

By officially entering South Korea, Binance once again demonstrates its ability to adapt to complex regulatory frameworks while expanding into Asia’s most active cryptocurrency markets.

Early signs suggest that this could mark the beginning of a new wave of regulatory acceptance for major crypto companies across East Asia — emphasizing transparency, consumer protection, and sustainable growth.
