When we talk about self-defense, we say like do this, strike, he will be in pain and then make your move. But a drunk person might not feel the pain that much when you strike for self-defense. So dealing with drunk people can be a little different.
If someone does not feel the pain that much for that time, you strike and go to make your next more, he can attack you or do something else. So you have to be thoughtful about that.
When you are talking to drunk people face to face, he can attack you and you might find it difficult to defend. Although you say something in a nice way, don't expect him to behave in a nice way because he's drunk and maybe so much drunk that he does not even know what he is doing.
So if you want to apply pressure here and there, that might not work. And if you don't know what's going on, you are in trouble. Keep the distance while talking to drunk people. If they attack you or hit you with something, you can move back and defend yourself.
When drunk people attack you, you can defend their attack, move and grab them from behind. If you can lock him and make him off-balance, you can easily deal with that or move him away.
Sometimes a drunk person has no idea what he is doing because he is too drunk. He's drunk, but you are not. So be reasonable. Instead of attacking him and hurting him pretty bad, grab him and move him away.
When you fight for self-defense, all you want is to save your life and go back home alive. This is not about being a hero and showing others how good you are at fighting. Martial art is to stop the violence, not to create more. A martial artist knows what the pain feels like. So he or she will not hurt others unless that's the only way for self-defense.
