The CEO of the largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance, Changpeng Zhao, is looking for a candidate to take over the management of the company. He made such a statement during a press conference on Tuesday, July 27.
There is always a candidate to be my successor. We are looking for someone with a lot of regulatory experience to become a CEO.
Zhao reassured the users of the exchange, promising that he would not immediately leave the post of director, and the timeframe for the search for a successor was in no way limited. You don't have to be in a leadership position to develop a marketplace, Zhao added,
I will always contribute to Binance and the BNB ecosystem. I don't need to be a CEO to do this.
Over the past few months, Binance has had tensions with regulators around the world. Zhao said that he “would be honored to run Binance as a regulated financial institution” and that he would not leave the exchange, despite the actions of the regulators, until he found a better market leader than himself.
Anyway, changes are coming at Binance. Zhao explained that he wants to focus now on opening regional headquarters so that the structure of the cryptocurrency exchange is more understandable for local regulators. Previously, representatives of the exchange argued that Binance, in general, does not need offices. One such statement came after the publication of The Block, which reported the closure of the company's Shanghai office during a police raid:
The Binance team is a global movement of people working in a decentralized manner, wherever they are located. Binance has no offices in Shanghai or China, so there is no point in claiming that any of the offices were raided and closed by the police.
Now Zhao says in a very different way:
It is rather difficult for regulators to understand our structure. For example, such simple things as the absence of a head office. We now want to open several headquarters in different parts of the world. We have not yet decided where exactly they will be located.
The head of the exchange admitted that the trading platform used to have a bad policy towards regulators, but now everything will change:
I am an entrepreneur in the technology industry. We are now becoming a regulated finance company. Therefore, I am ready to give way to a leader with impressive regulatory experience.
