A Historical Palce in Assam, Umananda Island

Umananda is the smallest river Island in the world. It is situated in the middest of river Brahmaputra flowing the city of Guwahati in Assam, a State of North East of India. The British name of the island is peacock island for its structure. The island can be reached via 10/15 minutes by ferry from Umananda ghat, located near Guwahati high court. Every year several tourist visit this place. #### According to history, in the year 1694 the Ahom king Supoatpha ordered his minister Garagaya Handique Phukan to build a Hindu temple, called Umananada temple. In 1897 earthquake damaged the temple badly but later it is repairing by a local merchant. During the repairing new Vaishnavi, scripts were written in the wall. Maha Shivaratri is widely celebrated in Umananda temple. Monday is considered is a local holiday. According to Hindu Mythology Shiv created an island for his wife Parvati. It is a good place to visit everyone. In winter season many people visit this place also came people from other countries. #### The natural environment of Umananda Island is looking beautiful. From Umananda ghat, the natural beauty of Umananda Island looking beautiful because is it is located middest part of river Brahmaputra.
