Hi friends!
Ancient art is always a representation of magic. How beautiful were the ancient people and left behind many temples and monuments. Historians at all times try to understand how ancient people lived and what values pursued. Today we will look at the sculptures and monuments in the Central part of the island of Java. Namely, it is Dieng plateau. You will see the most beautiful sculptures and temples of ancient people. Now they are the monuments of the world history of mankind.

Chandi plateau Dieng. Central part of Java island. VIII-IX centuries.
Dieng plateau is rich in ancient temples. They are usually regarded as the oldest in Indonesia, which have survived to our time. Historian N. Crom writes that the temples of Dieng belong to VIII-IX centuries. This is the early stage of art formation in the middle ages in Indonesia.

The stone temples of Dieng were first discovered in 1814 as blocks. Volcanic and earth surface was stored under a 40 buildings. Many temples were very hard to find in the swampy forest, where European expeditions went. The first photos of the Dieng plateau appeared in 1865. Also, the researchers drew ink preserved monuments of culture and art. Only at the beginning of XX Dutch archaeologists have described in detail some of the temples of the Dieng plateau.

Chandi Arjuna. Dieng Plateau. VIII-IX centuries.
On the Dieng plateau in less good condition there were only 8 temples. Temples on the island of Java called "Chandi". On the Dieng plateau, the location of the temples has always been in groups. The largest group of temples is called Arjuna. They are built almost all on the same principle. On a square or rectangular pedestal is a cubic cell. The top of the building is a three-stage completion of the building. Unfortunately, the peaks are few preserved. The steps necessarily led to the temple. On the walls of the temples there were niches where there were once sculptures. Very beautiful relief design of temples in the form of plant ornaments, fantastic animals and the jaws of the monster.

Temple Puntadewa. Dieng Plateau. VIII-IX centuries.
In the group of Candi Arjuna, there is another classical building, the plateau of Dieng is the temple Puntadewa. This temple is even more decorated and slightly different in size. But after the destruction it is difficult to make any detailed descriptions, the temple became visually higher. A distinctive feature of the temple Puntadewa the fact that he has two pedestal. Accordingly, the staircase is also longer and beautifully decorated.

Very beautiful ornament of the temple Puntadewa framed niches, the edges of which protrude. Above the niche is the head of the monster

The Temple Of Bhima. Dieng Plateau. VIII-IX centuries
On the South side of the Dieng plateau is the temple of Bhima. He stands a little away from all the other temples. The amazing feature of this temple is that it resembles the architecture of ancient Cambodia in the early period (Prasad). At the base of the structure is a twelve-triangle. Parts of the structure in the form of horseshoes visually smooth the entire structure. This gives the fundamental and ductility of the structure. The ratio of parts of the temple, their focus on different parts of the world characterizes the mythological and cosmological view of the world.

The mask Kala Chandi Dieng plateau. VIII-IX centuries.
A very characteristic feature of the decoration of Indonesian temples is the decoration with a mask of Kala and Makara. The entrance was decorated with a mask of feces. The lower parts of the entrance were decorated with the fantastic head of the sea monster - Makara.

Sculpture of stone. Shiva's Head. Dieng Plateau. VIII-IX centuries.
The art of the Central part of the island of Java in VII-IX centuries. very interesting and informative. Interesting transition building temples from wood to stone. In the stone structures of the ancient inhabitants had to transfer relief that was previously transferred to wood carving. The architecture of the stone buildings was very similar to the wooden ones. Only the technology was different to make it happen. Agree that it is easier to shape a tree than to process a stone. The sculpture also shows progress and transition from stone to bronze. Then learned to cover bronze with silver. The sculptures are gradually acquiring the ductility and elongation
