Everyone is always looking for answers, and modern sculptors and artists try to convey their feelings in creativity. They are trying to analyze and implement their works in paintings, sculptures, etc. Today you will be introduced to the young sculptor Gurgen Petrosyan (34 years). In his young years, he has managed to win the hearts of many countries with his works.
Can a man in his right mind lose himself? And why is modern society prone to the destruction of our individuality? Famous Moscow sculptor Gurgen Petrosyan raises these issues in his work. Erarta presents the first exhibition of the artist Dividuum in St. Petersburg. And its Central series – "Models of Yves Klein" – is about the loss of identity.

Yves Klein (1928-1962) lived a short but bright life in art. He studied art for only eight years, but managed to come up with several important strategies for the development of avant-garde, which, if everything is greatly simplified, are reduced to one – the artist's gesture is more important than his works. Very vividly were the paintings of the artist in blue.
Remember the ancient expression: "Our body is a temple"? The third cycle of works of the sculptor "Heroes and gods" reveals, perhaps, the main idea of his creativity. Here the once-beautiful athletes gained plump shape. Gurgen Petrosyan's works are a vivid metaphor of the consumer society, which has forgotten about its past ideals.
The project (In)Dividuum consists of three sections, in which there are a series of works "Divid-Individual", "Models" and "Red", in which Gurgen Petrosyan refers to the image of the postman.
Created by the sculptor hero of the future appeared as a result of the rapid development of modern technology. It is independent of the corporeal shell and "zeroed to the state of pure form", behind which there is the problem of depersonalization.
Blurred fragile images speak of the importance of preserving the individuality of each person and are presented in sculptures made of plaster, bronze and plastic, created in the period from 2014 to 2018.
About the artist: Gurgen Petrosyan was born in 1985 in Yerevan. Lives and works in Moscow. In 2010 he graduated from Yerevan State Art Academy and in 2012 from MGHPA. S. G. Stroganova (Department of monumental and decorative sculpture). The graduate school modern art "Free workshops" in Moscow Museum of modern ART.
Constantly experimenting, sculptor Gurgen Petrosyan uses a variety of "palette" directions of these experiments – monumental and decorative sculpture, easel sculpture and small plastic. The artist, first of all, puts the emphasis in his work on easel works, as in this direction he feels more creatively independent.
His "fermoposta" – the distortion of proportions, a departure from the "closed-minded" realism-academic rather talking about the search in the field of "symbolic". G. Petrosyan's works refer to the "canonicity" of the sculpture of ancient civilizations, the expressiveness of primitive plastics, as well as to the modernist tradition, but they are an original attempt to convey reality in the form of a generalizing sign, visually "honed" and simultaneously polysemantic.

The revision of the ancient heroes is a great contrast between the classical modernism and the modern representation of the sculptor about the changes of the human body. Ideals completely changed and that's understandable. I really liked the creative ideas of the author. Gurgen very creatively United different epochs and representations of historical ideals and styles of different artists.
This sculpture is "Under the shower". Looking at it, you can imagine a lot of pictures in your head. Why red? The modern world makes a lot of challenges, which is why you can focus on red. There are many challenges and unresolved issues. This is to draw attention to these open topics. In this sculpture I also saw the genocide of the Armenian people, which was a very terrible time for Armenia. And it is the birthplace of the author.
