ETHEREUM NAME SERVICE (ENS) DONE FINALLY SUE GODADDY

O

GoDaddy appears to be looking for trouble. The domain hosting and email service provider is being sued by True Names Ltd, the owner of Ethereum Name Service (ENS).

According to True Names, GoDaddy misrepresented the eth.link domain's expiration and sale to a third party.

In the US, the lawsuit was brought. On Monday, Arizona District Court was convened. Virgil Griffith registered the domain name eth.link with GoDaddy in 2018. Griffith previously worked for True Names, and the business has continued to do so.

Owning a domain name with GoDaddy

Due to Griffin's incarceration, the corporation failed to renew the domain ownership by July 2022 as required.

He was incarcerated for 63 months for allegedly helping North Korea avoid sanctions. Griffin has already attended a crypto conference there. But True Names insists that they used the easyDNS service to re-register.

The lawsuit also claims that GoDaddy sold it to a different buyer without informing the plaintiffs or responding to their repeated requests for contact.

Dynadot, who originally purchased the domain, later sold it to Manifold Finance for $852,000 at an auction. Manifold Finance now owns it.

"We are disappointed to see the acts of GoDaddy," the founder of ENS told The Block. "We feel misled because we were told the domain would be returned to the registry only to learn it was allegedly sold to another domain provider before we had a chance to claim it."

True Names, whose interests are protected by Crowell & Moring LLP, has added Dynadot and Manifold Finance to the list of defendants in the complaint.

True Names has been conducting business under the eth.limo domain.

What Is The ENS?

An Ethereum address that may be used everywhere is created using the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), an open, distributed, and extendable naming protocol.

Over the past month, ENS sales have increased. The service's trading volume was $2.44 million on September 6, up 45% from the previous day. The imminent Ethereum (ETH) Merge, which will change the network's consensus process from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS), which is anticipated to take place between September 13 and 15, appears to be the cause of the revived interest.

Thanks.
