The English Football Association accused Cristiano Ronaldo with "improper and/or aggressive" conduct on Friday for an incident that happened five months prior.
After United's 1-0 loss to Everton on April 9, footage appeared to show Ronaldo knocking a fan's cellphone to the ground. Merseyside Police issued the Portuguese a warning for the incident.
A representative for the FA stated, "Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for an incident that occurred during Manchester United FC's Premier League match against Everton on Saturday, April 9, 2022.
"It is alleged that the forward behaved improperly after the last whistle." and/or aggressive."
Ronaldo, 37, apologized on social media for his "outburst" after the incident, which happened as he was walking towards the tunnel, and asked the fan to see a game at Old Trafford "as a demonstration of fair play and sportsmanship."
Ronaldo could be suspended from forthcoming Premier League games if proven guilty of the charge. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who was unable in getting out of Old Trafford during the summer window, has only made one league start this season under Erik ten Hag.
