The chief executive of the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), Justin Bgoni, said ZSE was interested in adopting blockchain technology if regulatory certainty could be achieved.
Bgoni, while supporting blockchain technology, is waiting to implement blockchain technology in the ZSE until the issue of regulatory certainty has been resolved.
Boni told a news conference: "Then there is the money side of blockchain technology. This is rather difficult, in terms of regulation, we are not clear about this and we do not want to do something where regulation is not clear in exchange. But the technology side is very good."
Certainty of regulation for the cryptocurrency space is currently being pursued in several jurisdictions. The newly introduced Taxonomy of Tokens (TTA) in the United States, for example, seeks to provide regulatory certainty for cryptocurrency by introducing uniform and reclassified definitions.
ZSE is considering blockchain-based services and products in real estate investment trust securities, mineral commodity exchanges, and exchange-traded funds.
