Leeds United hosted Everton and were hoping a win would help them banish their opening day thrashing at the hands of Manchester United. They were run ragged and totally outclassed and playing at home, they would hope to get one over Everton but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw after being behind twice in the game.
Everton went ahead twice in the game but they couldn't hold on to the lead. Despite winning 3-1 against Southampton on the opening day, Rafa Benitez was hoping to get his second win of the season but had to settle for a draw against a resilient Leeds United at the Elland Road.
Richarlison got the ball and found Digne. His delivery in the box was meant for Calvert-Lewin but he was pulled in the box. The referee consulted with the side monitor and he pointed to the spot. Calvert-Lewin stepped up in the 30th minute and converted from the spot kick to give Everton the lead.
Rafinha almost got his side back into the game just 2 minutes after when he gathered the ball on the edge of the area and produced a curling effort that missed the bottom corner after brilliant twists and turns from him. Leeds finally got their goal in the 41st minute after Keane lost footing with his marking. Bamford wasted no time in settling up Klich and the expertise required in burying his chance shows absolute beauty in the finishing.
Everton got the lead yet again in the 50th minute when a great piece of individual brilliance from Gray restored the lead for Everton. He dazzled with his feet before firing a shot in between the legs of Dallas. It was a lovely build up play from Iwobi to Doucoure. His initial pass was for Calvert-Lewin but it trickled back to Doucoure who found Gray on the side of the box before Gray did the rest of the damage to Leeds' defence line.
Leeds won't go down without a fight and they proved their mettle yet again. Leeds has carved a niche for themselves that despite losing a game, they attack as though they were they ones leading. It proved to be helping as they got themselves back into the game in the 72nd minute in an exquisite fashion. It was the brilliance of the goal from Rafinha that made it worth it. He produced a sumptuous curling effort that didn't lack the required pace and precision as it found the back of the net.
Richarlison should have dragged his side back into the game with a lead in the 75th minute but his curling effort missed just by a fraction as he aimed for the bottom right corner of the post.
The game ended 2-2 and Leeds settled for a point while Everton couldn't add a second win to their first win. Rafa Benitez would be pleased at least and Leeds would have to get a win in their next game to improve on their last season's performance.
