Everton hosted Burnley hoping to get the 3 points and they did. It wasn't smooth sailing against Sean Dyche's men who are in desperate need of 3 points as well seeing where they are on the log. Burnley caused Everton all sorts of problems and looked destined to be the one to win the game but a second-half blitz of 2 goals in quick succession dented Burnley's hope and Rafa Benitez's men got a 3-1 win on the night.
Burnley went into the first half as the better team with more opportunities to win the game even though Everton rallied around to show some promise and give hope to their home fans. When Burnley scored there was a sense of urgency for them to produce results and the home fans did their part as Everton turned the game around and gave their fans a perfect comeback to win the game.
Woods should have given Burnley the lead in the 15th minute after a brilliant delivery was sent into the box but he missed connecting with the ball. 3 minutes after, he was found again in the box and this time around he connected with his feet only to be blocked off. Burnley dominated early on with their aerial dominance and attacking game plan but couldn't convert their chances.
Burnley should have scored again in the 27th minute when Woods held the ball well and found Barnes who later laid a short pass for Brownhill. His shot was straight at the goalkeeper who gathered comfortably.
Everton got their spark back as Townsend found Doucoure in the box in the 28th minute. He smashed the ball but the goalkeeper was equal to it as he blocked it off. Mina should have given Everton the lead also in the 33rd but failed to also connect his head with the ball. Everton ended the first half better after an underwhelming 27 minutes display.
Burnley started the second half as they started the first and this time around they got a goal. Gudmundsson's excellent delivery into the box found Ben Mee who powered home a header to give Burnley the lead but the lead only lasted 7 minutes as Townsend's excellent delivery as well found Keane who powered home another good header to level the matters.
The turnaround came in the 65th minute when the provider turned a scorer as Townsend scored a magnificent goal; a scorcher as his attempt found the back of the net from way out to give Everton the lead for the first time in the game. That was his first goal for Everton as a new boy too. A minute after, another new boy got his name on the score sheet and that's Gray. Doucoure who has been lively ever since Everton took control of the game found Gray with a defence-splitting pass to set him one on one with the goalkeeper. He powered a low drive into the net to register his 3rd goal and also the 3rd goal for Everton on the night. That was also his 3rd Premier League goal in a row. Everton's two goals in quick succession did the damage against Burnley.
2 minutes after, the stadium went wild as Doucoure scored but he was rightly ruled for offside. Everton were all over Burnley. It's a crazy game of football as anything could happen at any time. Who would have imagined Everton turning the game around!
Townsend tried another audacious attempt and if not for the bravery of the goalkeeper, it would have gone in again. Doucoure gathered it, found Gomes in the box but shocking he flashed his attempt wide. Burnley thought they had reduced the deficit when Tarkowski scored but it was correctly ruled for offside as well.
The game ended 3-1 in favour of Everton who now moved to 4th on the Premier League table. This season would be an interesting one, no doubt.
