Arsenal hosted Newcastle United and this is Eddie Howe's first game in charge that he would be present on the pitch after missing the first match due to covid. Arsenal heaped more misery on Newcastle United who are still in search of their first win of the season. They have gone 13 games without a win and even the change of ownership still can't do much to lift the mood in the camp.
Newcastle United has conceded 29 goals already this season and they are finding it hard to climb up the table with Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United next in their next 6 games. They would hope to take points before meeting these teams.
Arsenal confined Newcastle United to another defeat as Saka and Martinelli both scored to give Arsenal a deserved 2-0 win to bounce back after their embarrassing defeat at the hands of Liverpool. It was a perfect response from Mikel Arteta's men.
Saka should have given Arsenal the lead as early as the 15th minute when he was found at the near post but he was unable to connect with the ball. Odegaard also had a brilliant freekick saved at the edge of the box. His freekick lacked that edge as he couldn't find the top corner and the goalkeeper saved it.
Newcastle United also had a chance of theirs in the 27th minute when Schar flicked his header from a corner kick but it went over the bar. Jonjo Shelvy also had an adventurous strike that was destined for the top corner but for the brilliance of Ramsdale, the ball was saved.
Arsenal took charge again as Tomiyasu's adventurous strike also went out by a tiny margin. Saka, in the 41st minute, made a brilliant run on the left side of the pitch and he picked out Smith-Rowe whose header was saved by the goalkeeper and the rebound fell to Aubameyang and with the post staring at him, he struck the post with the ball instead, much to the shock of everyone.
In the 50th minute, Saka went alone rather than pick out a teammate and had his effort saved but he wasn't to be denied for long. Arsenal got the goal their effort deserved in the 56th minute after a brilliant move between Smith-Rowe, Tavares and Saka. Tavares eventually found Saka and he released a powerful low drive shot to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead.
There was a penalty shout from Newcastle United after Wilson was bundled in the box by Tavares but the referee and VAR didn't see any maliciousness in it and in the 66th minute, Arsenal got their second. Martinelli who came on for the injured Saka was brilliantly picked out by Tomiyasu and he hit a one time volley into the back of the net to end the game 2-0.
Newcastle couldn't get anything out of the game and Arsenal couldn't add to their tally as the game ended 2-0.
