Leeds United hosted Liverpool and right from the start, you can expect this game to be an attacking game because of the attacking flair of both sides. Both sides are always willing to attack even when they are trailing.
Both teams played attacking games especially with the attacking players they have in their ranks but Liverpool came out the better after 90 minutes. It wasn't smooth sailing for Liverpool who had to lose Elliott to a leg-breaking injury while Leeds United also lost their player, Struijk to a red card for his part in the leg-breaking tackle. Leeds United had Daniel James in their rank, fresh from his recent transfer to Leeds from Manchester United and he started on the bench.
All these events didn't affect Liverpool as they won against Leeds United with a resounding 3 goals with Leeds having no reply to any of the goals. Salah, Fabinho and Mane did the damage to Leeds at the Elland Road. If anyone can bounce back from a defeat, then you can count Leeds United in. They won't rollback.
Liverpool got off to a flying start after exchanging a pass with Matip who eventually found Alexander Arnold on the right-hand side of the box. He wasted no time in picking out Salah with a low drive pass inside the box and all he needed to do was guide the ball into the net and he did. Liverpool silenced the crowd on the home ground with a lovely swift goal in the 20th minute.
The shocking moment of the game came 5 minutes after Diogo Jota did all the work and he broke in from the right-hand side into the box to pick out Mane who has been lurking just in front of the goal line. It was shocking to see Mane roof the ball with the goal at his mercy for an easy tap in. He couldn't believe his shocking miss either which has to do with the positioning of his feet.
Mane tried to make up for his earlier miss as he exchanged a pass with Salah. Salah found him again and he tried his luck from just at the edge of the box but he was unlucky as the ball missed the target just by a distance. Harvey Elliott also tried his luck from almost the same position as Mane in the 38th minute but he got the same result as Mane; missed marginally.
In the 43rd minute, Leeds went on the offensive also as Ayling was picked out by a lovely ball in from Rodrigo but his finishing let him down as he wasted what could have been a good opportunity to drag his team back. Ayling has been known to score spectacular goals and this would have fitted into the same category had it gone in.
In the 49th minute, Liverpool had a penalty shout waved off by the referee after Mane was obstructed inside the box that made him miskicked the ball. The ball into the path of Salah who shocking missed another open goal as he dragged his shot just side with the goalkeeper nowhere in sight.
In the 50th minute, Fabinho got his first goal in 15 months after a lovely corner was delivered into the box and the ball was knocked down for him with a header. He managed to control the ball and slammed the ball home. It looked questionable but after a VAR check, the goal rightly stood and Liverpool increased their lead by 2 goals.
The horror moment came in the 59th minute when Struijk tackled Elliott and after the VAR reviewed it the referee had no choice but to send him off after the medical staff attended to Eliott. It was a horror leg break which might obviously rule him out of the season. What a promising youngster he is.
Mane wasted another chance in the 81st minute. If he had converted his chances he would have gotten a hat-trick by now. After carefully displacing the defender with a lovely cut back, the legs of the goalkeeper directed the ball for a corner with an open goal in sight. A minute after, Bamford tried an audacious attempt that would have been another contender of the season goal just as the likes of halfway lob we have seen with Beckham and Wayne Rooney back in the day but this time around, Alisson was quick to backtrack and push it over the bar for a corner kick.
Mane finally got his goal in the 92nd minute when Salah found Henderson on the side and his brilliant pass across the other side of the pitch found Thiago just a bit outside the box. He drove in and laid a pass to Mane who made a quick turn and slammed home his shot to register his 99th Liverpool goal with Salah already on his 100th. These dynamic duos are doing a great job for Liverpool.
Liverpool ended the game with a resounding 3-0 victory and Leeds couldn't have any complaints regarding that.
