Tottenham hosted Chelsea after welcoming Son back to the fold as there was a renewed hope amongst the fans even though that was unable to prevent a defeat in front of their own fans.
Thomas Tuchel has really transformed this Chelsea side and it's scary to see what they would become when they fully gelled into a strong team. We might be seeing a wonderful and formidable dominance to come in the league.
Chelsea comprehensively put Tottenham to the sword with a 3-0 win courtesy of Thiago Silva, Ngolo Kante and Rudiger. It was a welll deserved victory as they came out fighting after an underwhelming first half.
Tottenham had the real chance via a freekick at the edge of the box early on but Kovacic deflected it for a corner kick.
In the 10th minute, Havertz fluffed his lines after Azpilicueta headed the ball in his direction inside the box. Chelsea wasted another attack in the 14th minute when Mason Mount started a lovely move and found Lukaku. Lukaku picked him out again with a subtle pass but he was unable to do anything reasonable with it. Chelsea are hitting Tottenham on the break to good effect but they are not making much out of it.
Tottenham broke away in the 20th minute after Dele Alli brilliantly found Son with a lovely touch despite being clipped by Christensen. Son sent Reguillon through but his cross into the box was blocked by Rudiger. This game is a good end to end attacking performance from both sides.
Lukaku and Christensen combined which saw the latter produced a brilliant piece of skill to try and find the top right corner of the post with Lloris clearly beaten had it gone in but he missed. Not bad from a player who is still searching for a goal in a long time for Chelsea.
Son was sent racing again and he has been a lively one for Spurs who would be delighted to have him back again in the side. He raced through on goal in the 33rd minute and the pressure from Alonso with the quick feet of Kepa who raced to the ball closed down the space Son had to work with and the ball was saved.
Chelsea started the second half quickly and a long ball from Thiago Silva found Alonso inside the box and his volley shot was saved by Lloris and pushed for a corner kick. It's the bright start that Chelsea would have wanted after a not so brilliant first half. They increased the intensity hoping to hit Tottenham quickly.
They got their goal finally in the 49th minute when Alonso delivered another brilliant corner kick which Thiago Silva matched with an equally brilliant header for his first goal since December. Chelsea's pressure finally paid off.
Chelsea had another chance in the 53rd minute and this time around from Alonso after a lovely ball found him inside the box. It took the alertness of Eric Dier to stop the ball from finding the back of the net and the rebound was equally saved for another corner. Chelsea has had 9 different scorers this season and it's good to see the goals go round without utter reliance on any player.
Chelsea went two goals up in the 59th minute after substitute, Ngolo Kanye struck a shot that deflected off the feet of Eric Dier into the back of the net. Lloris had no chance of saving it as it came off the post into the back of the net. Chelsea's bright start played in their favour as Tottenham couldn't capitalize on theirs in the first half.
Kane and Son combined well in the 64th minute which led to Kane powering a shot goal-ward but Kepa was equal to it as he saved low to his right.
Thiago Silva showed his aerial threat again in the 75th minute after another brilliant corner kick. He matched it with a glancing header from a tight angle with his crafty movement but the goalkeeper was alert to parry it away. A minute after, Lukaku dazzled with his feet and located substitute, Timo Werner right inside the box but his unresponsiveness to the urgency of the ball made them close down on him and the threat was nullified.
Chelsea bombarded Tottenham many times with so many attempts that could have led to a goal but it wasn't meant to be as Tottenham held on so as not to concede further. Chelsea has been matching Liverpool with their scoreline and after Liverpool beat Palace by 3-0 to go top of the league, Chelsea were hoping to do the same again Tottenham so as to be joint top with the same goal difference aswell.
Lukaku hoped to continue his rich vein of form in the 86th minute after a lovely cross found him but his header was saved easily by Hugo Lloris. Kovacic wasted a lovely chance in the 91st minute when Lukaku held off play and found Kovacic as he was running in behind the defence. He picked him out but Kovacic hesitated because he was hoping to supply the ball to another but the angle closed up and Lloris blocked his strike.
Chelsea finally got their 3rd goal to match Liverpool's run in the 92nd minute when Werner supplied Rudiger in the box as he guided the ball home with a lovely finish with his right foot to become Chelsea's 10th different scorer this season. Credit to what Thomas Tuchel has done with this team. Chelsea won Tottenham on their turf with a brilliant 3-0 win.
