Atletico Madrid suffered another defeat at the hand of Liverpool after they endured a 3-2 defeat at home against Liverpool. They suffered another 2-0 defeat this time around at Anfield and still with another red card. After playing with 10 men the last time around, Atletico got another red card after going behind by 2 goals against Liverpool at Anfield and Felipe was the culprit.
Jota and Mane put Diego Simeone's men to the sword with their 2 goals within the space of 8 minutes to confine Atletico to another defeat and they slipped to 3rd on the table due to Porto's 1-1 draw against Milan. Liverpool are already through to the knock out stage with 2 games to spare due to their perfect record of 4 wins in 4 games already in the UEFA Champions League.
The reds were not ready to ease up and as early as the 13th minute, Alexander Arnold produced a one time cross into the box and the little man, Jota was there to head the ball into the back of the net with ease, accuracy and alertness. What a start it was for Liverpool as the whole of Anfield were rocking.
In the 21st minute, Sadio Mane orchestrated a move that saw him hold off and maintain possession of the ball. He started the move and the ball ended with him as he poked home another delivery into the box by Alexander Arnold to double Liverpool's advantage on the night.
The game went from bad to worse for Diego Simeone's men as Felipe was shown a red card for a cynical challenge on Mane. He received his marching orders which made things worse for Atletico Madrid as they were trailing by 2-0 already.
Jota thought he had gotten the 3rd goal and his own 2nd goal in the 48th minute after he was picked out and he slotted the ball into the back of the net with ease but after a VAR check, the goal was ruled off for offside.
Salah desperately wanted to get on the score sheet as well and after he was cleverly released on the right-hand side in the 52nd minute, he went all the way rather than picking out a teammate. He managed to get his shot off by the goalkeeper blocked it. The rebound almost came to Jota before it was bundled off.
Suarez also thought he had reduced the deficit in the 56th minute with a brilliant deflected strike off Matip but with the help of the VAR, the goal was ruled off for offside with 2 Atletico players off before the ball came to Suarez on the edge of the box.
Liverpool tried to extend their lead with Van Dijk and Henderson with the former's audacious attempt flying over the bar and the latter's attempt being saved by the goalkeeper.
The game ended 2-0 and Suarez suffered back to back defeat against his former employers. Liverpool fully deserved the win, no doubt.
