Apart from being known as water hyacinth, in some regions of Indonesia, water hyacinth has another name such as in the Palembang area known as Kelipuk, in Lampung known as Ringgak, in Dayak known as Ilung-ilung, in Manado known as Tumpe. Water hyacinth is a kind of plant that is easy to live by, that this plant can live anywhere, which has water and was first discovered accidentally by a scientist named Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius, a German botanist in 1824 while conducting a review in Brazilian Amazon River. Water hyacinth has a high growth rate so that this plant is considered a plant that can damage the water environment, because this plant is a long time. Water hyacinth easily spreads through waterways to other water bodies. # Description of Hyacinth Flower The flower Hyacinth Flower lives and floats or floats in water and sometimes is rooted in the ground. Its height is around 0.4 - 0.8 meters. Do not have strong stems. The leaves are single and oval. The tip and base are tapered like the flower of love, the base of the bulge of the petiole. The surface of the leaf is slippery and green. The flowers include compound flowers, in the form of a grain, with tubular petals. The seeds are round and black. The fruit is a box of three bears and is green. The root is the root of the fiber.  Habitat of Water Hyacinth Flowers Water hyacinth flowers grow in shallow ponds, land that has water or is better known as wet land and swamps, slow flow, lakes, reservoirs and rivers etc. These plants can adapt to extreme changes in water levels, water flow, and changes in nutrient availability, pH, temperature and toxins in water. The rapid growth of water hyacinth is mainly caused by water containing high nutrients, especially those that are rich in nitrogen, phosphate and potassium (FAO Report). The salt content can inhibit the growth of water hyacinth as occurs in lakes on the coast of West Africa, where water hyacinth will increase throughout the rainy season and decrease when the salt content increases during the dry season.  # Bad Impacts of Water Hyacinth The pond contains flowering water hyacinth Effects that are not good for water hyacinth include: 1. Increases evapotranspiration (evaporation and loss of water through plant leaves), due to wide leaves and rapid growth. 2. The dead water hyacinth plants will descend to the bottom of the water so as to accelerate the silting process. 4. Disrupting traffic (transportation) of water, especially for people whose lives are still dependent on rivers such as in the interior of Kalimantan and some other areas. 5. Increased habitat for vector diseases in humans. 6. Reducing the aesthetic value of the aquatic environment.  # Prevention of Water Hyacinth Because water hyacinth is considered a disturbing weed, various methods are used to overcome it. Actions taken to overcome them include: 1. Using herbicides 2. Remove the water hyacinth directly from the aquatic environment 3. Using predators (animals that eat water hyacinth), one of them uses grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) or koan fish. Gouramy fish eat the roots of water hyacinth, so that the balance of weeds on the surface of the water is lost, the leaves touch the surface of the water so that decomposition occurs and then eaten by fish. This method has been carried out in Kerinci Lake and successfully overcame the water hyacinth on the lake. 4.
