Canavaro took charge of Al-Ahli Club of Dubai in July 2013 and won the UAE Pro League and UAE League cup in his first season.
After spells at Guangzhou Evergrande and Al-Nasr in 2014 and 2015 respectively, he was appointed Tianjin Quanjian manager. Here, he guided Tianjin Quanjian to the 2016 China League One title, which seal their promotion into the Chinese Super League. He also won the Chinese Football Association coach of the year award with Tianjin Quanjian in 2017. He move to Guangzhou Evergrande where he won the Chinese Super League in 2019. He left Guangzhou Evergrande in 2021.
The Italian hero have now been appointed to manage Seria B side Benevento after being linked to Watford and Everton job. This is the first of his managerial contract in Europe and his native home Italy.
According to his statements, 'I met the owner [Farhad Moshiri] and he was so clear with me,' he told The Telegraph in an interview.
'I explained to him my philosophy, my strategy. But of course it's understandable when you have the opportunity to take Lampard who stays [in England], who knows better than me, maybe, the Premier League.'
On Watford, he continued: 'They told me they wanted to find a coach in a few days and of course he is a coach with experience in the Premier League, he knows the players.
'I know I cannot make a mistake now. I need to choose the right club – in England, Italy, Spain.
'Now everyone wants to have big results in a short time so I need to be sure of the club.
'Even if it's a small club, I don't care because I just want to be a coach so I can share my experience. I am really confident I can do a good job.'
As a player Fabio Canavaro won two La Liga title and 136 caps of Italy.
