Serie A club Lazio and Italy national team striker Ciro Immobile has been involved in a road accident. The accident happened when the car carrying him collided with a tram near the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The accident has been confirmed by the club. Lazio confirmed in a statement the nature of Immobile's injuries, although video showed him leaving the scene of the accident on foot. "Lazio medical staff have today (Sunday) informed that Ciro Immobile suffered a spinal cord sprain and multiple injuries to his 11th rib in a car accident," the statement read.
The statement further said, 'His condition is now good. He is still under the observation of Professor Francesco Franceschi at the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Augustino Gemelli IRCCS Polytechnic in Rome.'
Italia24 reports that the accident happened in Rome, on Ponte Matteotti, which is just five minutes away from the Stadio Olimpico. This is Lazio's home ground.
Citing sources in Italy, The Mirror claims her two daughters were also in the car at the time. All three of them were brought to the hospital together, but there is no word yet on the condition of her children. But it was initially known that their injuries were not serious. The report also said people in Immobile at the scene of the accident reported that the tram broke the rules and crossed the median at a red light and hit their cars.
Immobile said in a video on social media, 'The tram was running while the red light was on. Fortunately I'm fine, I only have a minor injury to my arm.'
Immobile is one of the top goalscorers in Serie A history. He is in great form for his club Lazio this season as well. He also scored a brace against Spezia on Saturday (April 15).
