A cutaway floor reveals a skeleton wrapped in a coiled basket and buried beneath the spot where the mother and children of this house ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ  would sleep ๐Ÿ’ค๐Ÿ’ค. When someone died, relatives left the corpse on a platform outside the town, where vultures and insects picked the bones clean.

ย  ย  Then they took the skeleton home for burial, perhaps during a spring festival in which townsfolk mended walls and roofs.

ย  ย  ย Pictured here is a typical family home, a single room.A ladder descends from the rooftop entrance, hung with pig bladders full of drinking water ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒŠ.Tow oak rafters support closely packed crossbeams, over which lie woven grass mats, bundles of reeds and a hard outer layer of dried mud.

ย  ย  ย In the foreground,a low door ๐Ÿšช๐Ÿšช in the inner wall leads to a storeroom housing clay caskets and jars.Under the stairs is the kitchen area, with its open hearth, an oven in the wall ๐Ÿงฑ๐Ÿงฑ and variety of utensils such as a burnished cooking pot ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฒ and a bone ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ— spatula and tow-pronged fork.
