Mykhailo Mudryk had previously expressed a desire to join Arsenal, but only Chelsea could match the £88.5 million asking price. The 22-year-old has now committed to the Blues for eight and a half years.
Mykhailo Mudryk, a winger for Shakhtar Donetsk, has been acquired by Chelsea for £88.5 million.
Mudryk has previously stated on social media that he wished to play for Premier League leaders Arsenal. Even as recently as Friday, Arsenal was still in negotiations but was ready to back out of the agreement if it did not meet their expectations.
But on Saturday night, Chelsea and Shakhtar reached an agreement, and the 22-year-old travelled to west London to have a physical before agreeing to an eight-and-a-half-year contract.
Mudryk said, "I'm very excited to join for Chelsea.
"At this point in my career, this is a really alluring challenge for me since it is a large club in an amazing league. I'm looking forward to working with Graham Potter and his team and getting to know my new team members."
Behdad Eghbali, a co-controlling owner and chairman of Chelsea, said: "It gives us great pleasure to welcome Mykhailo to Chelsea. He is a really exciting talent, and we think he will make a great addition to our team both now and in the future. He will give our assault more depth, and we are confident that Londoners will embrace him with open arms."
Following the additions of Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, and Andrey Santos, Mudryk is Chelsea's fifth January acquisition.
