Interior Minister of Ukraine among 14 people killed in chopper Accident

When a helicopter crashed near a nursery in Brovary, a suburb of Kiev, Denys Monastyrskyy and other high officials perished.

Emergency services report that a helicopter accident outside of Kyiv's capital city killed at least 14 persons, including one kid and Ukraine's interior minister.

Denys Monastyrskyy, the interior minister, his deputy Yevhen Yenin, and Yurii Lubkovych, the state secretary of the ministry of internal affairs, were among those slain on Wednesday.

The reason for the helicopter's crash in Brovary, a commuter town that saw intense combat at the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, was not immediately known.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) said that as of 3 p.m. local time (13 p.m. GMT), there had been 14 fatalities, including one child. It had previously said that 16 individuals, including three children, had perished in the collision, despite an earlier estimate of 18 by a local authority.

Numerous people, including kids, suffered injuries.

Oleksiy Kuleba, the governor of the Kyiv area, said on Telegram that "there were kids and employees in the nursery at the time of this catastrophe."

He stated, adding that all emergency services were there, "Children from the kindergarten are in another educational institution, and necessary agencies are working with them."

Social media users posted videos of the collision that included a burning structure and wailing victims. Near the destroyed nursery, a courtyard contained a number of victims covered in foil blankets, and a playground was littered with wreckage.

The most senior Ukrainian official to pass away since the start of the conflict was Denys Monastyrskyy, who was in charge of internal security and the police.

According to the RBK-Ukraine news agency, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy director of the Ukrainian presidential office, stated at a briefing that the helicopter was travelling to one of the "hot zones" of the conflict with Russia and that additional information will be supplied later.

Andriy Kostin, the general prosecutor of Ukraine, stated on Telegram that the Ukrainian Security Service is conducting the inquiry.
