When there are more than one wife, it is wrong to lean towards one and hang the other wife or wives. The Qur'an has clearly stated that it is not permissible.
Do not lean towards one of the wives until the other wife is almost hanging.
In the Quran, permission to have more than one wife is given only on the condition of justice. If a person does not do justice, then he does not have the right to benefit from this conditional permission. The verse itself, which allows polygamy, also clearly states that if you are unable to do justice, then take only one wife.
If you fear that you will not be able to do justice and fairness, then take only one wife or take the maids who are your masters as wives. This is the right thing to do to survive injustice.
Imam Shafi'i (may Allah be pleased with him) has meant that you should not have more children, whose upbringing will be entrusted to you. But this meaning is the opposite of the original dictionary. In the dictionary, it means to lean.
Here (ayal) is used in the sense of leaning. For this reason, the word "awl" is used in the sense of deviating from the path of injustice and oppression. Therefore, Ibn Abbas (ra) Hasan, Mujahid, Sha'bi Ikrima and Qatada (ra) have interpreted it (do not deviate from justice).
Therefore, the above mentioned verses of the Qur'an prove that a person who does not do justice between two or more wives and makes a mistake in leaning towards one wife is a wrongdoer. So he has no right to be subjugated by 'permission to have more than one wife'. In this case, he should be legally obliged to have only one wife and the other wife or wives should also have this right so that they can get redressal against this person by law.
In the case of justice and fairness, the Qur'an has explained in detail that it is not possible for man to maintain equality in the matter of sincere love, nor is he responsible in the eyes of the Shari'ah.
It is not possible for you to maintain perfect justice between wives. You will not be able to do it even if you want to. Of course, the only thing they are forced to do is to treat everyone equally, in terms of maintenance, good manners and a comfortable life as husband and wife.
The law can intervene in these three types of unjust behavior of men. Moreover, in the case of husband-wife relationship, many things can come and go which are contrary to love and affection. But there is no opportunity to interfere with the law. The Qur'an has given general moral advice to husbands in these matters. In short, the husband's treatment of his wife should be generous and loving. Living in the midst of day and night quarrels and scandals is nothing but foolishness.
If you have to keep your wife, keep it simple, if not, say goodbye. These teachings of the Qur'an cannot be implemented by force and power. Nor is it possible for the law to intervene in any dispute between husband and wife. But the spirit of the law seems to be that the responsibility of fairness, sincerity and loving use rests mostly with the husband.
