It was only a matter of time until Bitcoin-themed bars began to spring up, especially in the Big Apple, with the cryptocurrency sector slowly but surely seeping into every crevice of contemporary culture and crypto themes becoming more and more popular.

As it happens, a pub named PubKey with a Bitcoin (BTC) theme has opened in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, where cryptocurrency enthusiasts can congregate to enjoy drinks and food prepared by a three-star Michelin-trained chef, according to a December 27 report by Bloomberg's Muyao Shen and Vildana Hajric.

The top global financial firm Fidelity, which in October revealed plans to provide institutional customers access to Ethereum (ETH) transactions through its digital assets subsidiary, hired Thomas Pacchia, a former director of the blockchain incubator, to establish the pub.

Bitcoin payments not yet available

However, there is a catch. Despite largely catering to crypto enthusiasts, the bar does not yet take cryptocurrency as a form of payment for its services, but there are plans to do so in the future.

In fact, at the beginning of December, a tweet from PubKey's profile included the chairman of Block Inc., Jack Dorsey, asking for a beta test to take Lightning payments through Square's (NYSE: SQ) point-of-sale systems. Dorsey replied positively.

Disgraced crypto bosses and honey badger

The decor of the pub, which includes a stuffed honey badger, which Pacchia claimed was Bitcoin's spirit animal and symbolises the widely used "honey badger don't care" meme, makes it clear that it is focused on the crypto community.

PubKey also has Russian nesting dolls of discredited cryptocurrency figures including Sam Bankman-Fried of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, Do Kwon of blockchain startup Terraform Labs, Alex Mashinsky of cryptocurrency loan platform Celsius (CEL), and Su Zhu of Three Arrows Capital.
