Zelenskyy of Ukraine praises ties as Poland pledges more help

According to Polish President Andrzej Duda, his nation would provide Ukraine with a total of 14 MiG-29 fighter aircraft.

On a visit to neighbouring Poland, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy secured fresh commitments to closer collaboration. He praised Poland for its help in the military and for hosting Ukrainian refugees.

Since Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February of last year, ties between Ukraine and Poland have become closer, with Warsaw taking the lead in persuading occasionally reticent partners to give Kyiv heavy weapons.

The now-EU and NATO member, a former Soviet satellite, feels particularly threatened by Russia and has been a strong proponent of help for Kiev.

Zelenskyy's trip to Warsaw marked his infrequent departure from Ukraine throughout the conflict. The journey to Poland distinguished apart from his other travels to the United States, Britain, France, and Belgium since it was publicised in advance and was done without the secrecy of those earlier excursions.

According to Marcin Przydacz, chief of Duda's foreign policy office, it was also the first time Zelenskyy and the first lady Olena Zelenska had flown overseas together since the conflict started. In a joint press conference with Duda, Zelenskyy declared that his government would "extend a hearty welcome" to Polish companies looking to support Ukraine's $41 billion post-war reconstruction.

Poland, according to Zelenskyy, ought to play a significant role in the extensive restoration work required when Russia's invasion is over. He later visited with Mateusz Morawiecki, the prime minister, and declared he would sign deals for constructing Ukrainian infrastructure. Additionally, Duda gave his Ukrainian colleague Poland's highest honor, the Order of the White Eagle.
