According to China's representative for Eurasian affairs, Ukraine's partners should stop delivering arms to Kiev and instead focus on dialogue to achieve a permanent peace.
Li Hui's request came as the United States and numerous European countries increased their shipments of missiles, tanks, and other equipment to Ukrainian forces attempting to retake Russian-occupied territory.
Li told reporters in Beijing on Friday, "We should stop sending weapons to the battlefield if we really want to end the war, save lives, and achieve peace."
"All parties should give serious thought to the painful lessons of how the Ukraine crisis came to be in its current state."
Currently, Li claimed, there are "many difficulties" in getting down and having discussions to put a stop to the conflict. He continued by saying that there are "not without points of consensus" among those waging the battle.
Li reiterated that "the two sides have not completely closed the door on peace talks."
Last month, a Chinese ambassador travelled to several European countries in an effort to advance peace negotiations about the Ukraine.
Li finished a 12-day trip to Moscow, Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, Kiev, and other cities in May, which China claimed was an effort to discover points of agreement for a potential political agreement.
"The risk of the Russia-Ukraine war escalating is still high," Li said, adding that all parties needed to take decisive action to "calm the situation" and guarantee the security of nuclear sites.
The administration of Chinese President Xi Jinping claims to be impartial and seeks to act as a mediator, but it has backed Moscow politically.
Beijing unveiled a peace proposal in February, but Ukraine's allies urged that President Vladimir Putin first pull down Russian soldiers.
Beijing has refrained from criticising the invasion and has defended Russia diplomatically by citing its position as one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
