That is the conclusion of a study published by researchers from the University of Hawaii. Carbon emissions are called appearing when computers create new bitcoins, by running software that forces processors to work hard and use a lot of electricity. Every transaction with bitcoin also uses large amounts of electricity. The study also mentions that this digital currency uses so much electricity that it has the potential to increase global temperatures by 2 degrees Celsius in 2048. "Our analysis shows that if the adoption rate follows widely used technology, this could create electricity demand that is able to produce enough emissions to exceed 2 degrees Celsius in global warming in just a few decades," the researchers said. This increase of 2 degrees Celsius is crucial because the figure is a benchmark for scientists in estimating climate change that will cause adverse effects on the Earth. This is not the first report on the potential of bitcoin for the Earth.
