The manager of Bridport FC claims that his team is "over the moon" about ending their 427-day league winless streak.

In the 10th tier of English football's pyramid, the South West Peninsula League, a non-league team from west Dorset defeated Plymouth Marjon 3-0.

According to manager Chris Herbst, "the guys have been training incredibly hard and it's paid off."

The mood was fantastic when everyone gathered at the Beehive (the clubhouse) following the game.

After giving up 185 goals in 36 games previous season, Bridport was demoted from step five of the non-league pyramid.

After seeing them mocked on social media, Herbst, who played for the club's minor teams, just took over as manager four weeks ago.

"It was a little doom and gloom before I got onboard," he remarked.

Because it's in my hometown and I'm enthusiastic about the club, I decided to apply for the management role because it used to really irritate me to see people disparaging the club on social media.

I think the key is to draw in players who want to play here rather than those who are only interested in making a little money.
