When the Legacy 600 plane that had been recovered by the Nyesom Wike-led administration finally came down at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Ikwere Local Government Area of the state, there was joy in Rivers State.
Youths and women from Rivers flocked to the airport to enthral onlookers with cultural performances in celebration of the state-owned Legacy 600 Aircraft's homecoming, which the Governor said had been surreptitiously abandoned in Germany by the previous administration.
The rescue and eventual restoration of the state's lost asset is a fact and not just a matter of politics, according to Wike, who was on the ground to collect the Legacy 600 aircraft.
The Governor clarified that an intelligence report was necessary.
He said that the aircraft had been sent to distant Germany by the previous administration without providing any documentation to his administration.
To the glory of God, the plane has returned, and the people of Rivers and Nigeria can see that we are not engaging in political games. All we're saying is that until we received information indicating that we may have this asset somewhere, nobody informed us.
He recalled that the Legacy 600 Aircraft had been bought by the Dr. Peter Odili-led administration to serve the interests of the Rivers people, but had been abandoned by Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi's administration since 2012 at the General Atomics Aerotec in Munich, Germany.
What is crucial for everyone present today, he added, is that nobody offered us a report or handover letter to let us know where such a State asset was when we took office in 2015, only for us to learn in 2019 that this asset is somewhere.
Because air travel is a more technical endeavour, according to Wike, significant care was taken to prepare the Legacy 600 Aircraft to conduct air travel successfully.
