Poultry Farming

Poultry is an animal husbandry system that has to do with raising of domestic birds such as geese, chickens, turkeys, and ducks for the production of eggs and meat.

CHICKENS

Chickens🐔 are land birds that are characterized with red comb on their head and two wattles under their chins, these features are mostly found in male chickens. According to science they are called Gallus Domesticus, they have two legs and two wings, but they can't fly like other birds, the only thing they can do is to fly onto trees or fences. Chickens have a temperature of about 107 degrees, their feets and shanks are covered with scales, they are also covered with feathers all over and little hairs under their belly. They have beaks and not teeth, chickens have a short lifespan of 10-15 years. Chickens are of two types, we have the layers; these ones are raised for egg production, while the broilers are raised for meat production. Guess what we just started raising broilers.

About Broilers

Boilers are chickens raised for meat, they are usually raised indoors, mostly on litters like wood shavings, rice hulls, and peanut shells. They are not raised in cages, but in big open structures with good ventilation system. The floor of the structure is usually covered with wood chips, peanut shells or rice hulls. If you look closely at the pictures and video, you will see that the floor of their house is covered with wood chips. This is a new business, but we are having issues with death. Please does anyone have idea on what could be the cause of their deaths?
