The last 12 months was indeed a turbulent one for Huawei. Though the firm manages to outpace Apple in production output, it’s still battling with bans from the U.S. Commerce Division. Such development is impacting the company’s supply chain and its market in the United States. Since it’s currently under restriction for licensing Google cellular providers, the phone manufacturer had no choice than to launch an open-source model of Android on devices.
Despite that recent development, Huawei's market share is still struggling to catch up with its past record. Its major Rival –Xiaomi is seriously trending up. In February 2020, Xiaomi was able to ship over 6 million phones. That’s over 500,000 units difference between the phone Huawei shipped in the same month.
Android users are now accustomed to using the google play store. Instead of having to visit multiple websites for downloads, the majority of Android users prefer to get all their apps on the platform. In such an event, it’s clear that the Playstore would be a unique selling point for every android phone manufacturer. So, if that great app is missing on a phone, the chances of neglecting such a phone in phone market is high.
If Huawei fails to deal with the issue quickly, it might lose a good number of customers to their competitors. The phone market is evolving every day and any manufacturer that would survive the heat of the market must ensure that its device offers the best user experience to every phone user.
It's worthy to note that Covid-19 is already having an impact on market sales. Many stores have already been under locked down. And phone demand will surely slide pending the time the epidemic is resolved. Huawei should take advantage of the current global challenge to tackle its ban on Google store. Swift action from the company will help them recover when every market operation recovers from Covid-19 epidemic challenges.
Such action will truly help the company gain its position in the market and even achieve unbeatable results. If these issues are not resolved on time, Xiaomi may take more market shares in time to come.
