Safe fruit cultivation in the country: Bangladesh is a humid and tropical country. The fertile soil of this country is conducive to the cultivation of almost all types of summer and early tropical fruits. At present, the amount of fruit produced in this country can meet only 35% of the level recommended by nutritionists. With the remaining 85% deficit, there is a need to increase the production of domestic fruits. Through extension work, there is an opportunity to increase production by planting trees in different places including hilly areas, fallow lands, homesteads etc. Compared to other developing countries, the average yield of native fruits in this country is very low. Yields can be increased through improved varieties, pen cultivation, improved cultivation and intensive care, proper disease and pest management.
Fruit cultivation is more profitable than field crops. So recently the cultivation of mango, jackfruit, litchi, guava and kul among various fruits is increasing. There is no unconventional garden anywhere. As a result, many unconventional fruits are likely to disappear from the country in the future due to commercial cultivation. At present, the production of apples, Bombay litchi, Thai guava, etc. in the market has awakened a huge country. The population of Bangladesh will exceed 160 million in 2020 and the demand for fruits will increase by 120 lakh grams per capita per day.

About 80% of the fruits are produced in summer and monsoon seasons. The main months of fruit production are the months of Jyastha and Ashar. On the one hand, the availability of fruits increases due to higher production. Although you can eat more fruit in these two months, you can find a small number of fruits in the remaining ten months. In winter, it is difficult to get any fruit other than orange and cool. However, banana and papaya are being produced for twelve months. Even due to research, mango is now available in 6 months of the year. Pineapple is being produced twelve months a year using modern technology and hormonal system. If we can produce fruits in other seasons besides the main production season, it can increase the production of fruits as well as benefit the farmers more. Twelve months is a shining example of Thai guava production. For this, fruit growers and householders have to plan a little and cultivate fruits. Fruits can be obtained for several months by planting different varieties of the same fruit.
Current Status of Fruit Cultivation: About 70 types of fruits are grown in Bangladesh including local and foreign fruits. Among the common fruits, banana, mango, pineapple, guava, papaya, lemon, batabi lemon, litchi, cool, coconut etc. are notable. Despite the wide variety of fruits produced in Bangladesh, the per capita daily availability of fruits is only 35-40 grams which is far below the minimum demand level recommended by nutritionists (115-120 grams). But about 8.0 lakh metric tons is needed. With the increase in population, the quantity and production of fruits should be increased
