The importance of fish and shrimp in meeting the growing population of our country, creating employment and earning foreign exchange is immense. For various reasons, our natural source of fish and shrimp is declining day by day. In this context, there is no alternative to increase fish and shrimp production through farming. However, in addition to increasing production, special attention should be paid to ensure that the fish produced is safe for public health. Because safe food is the birthright of human beings. Everyone expects that no one will get sick by eating the produced fish and shrimp. Moreover, we all know that shrimp in particular is a product of the international market. In order to survive in the competition in the world market, it is necessary to produce quality and safe fish and fish products. But at the farming stage we follow certain practices which directly or indirectly destroy the quality of fish and shrimp and make it unsafe for public health. So it is very important to follow the good practices by eliminating the bad practices in fish or shrimp farming. By following proper management methods and maintaining a good farming environment in the ponds, the risk of diseases is reduced and the production is increased. At the same time, the quality of the shrimp produced is maintained and it can survive with a good reputation in the world market. We know a lot about the various restrictions, conditions and legal barriers of the buyer country in purchasing goods from our country. Under EU law, the use of almost all types of chemicals, including harmful antibiotics, is prohibited in shrimp farming. Therefore, implement and follow the internationally recognized ‘Good Aquaculture Practice’ to avoid the use of harmful antibiotics and other chemicals to ensure the quality of farmed fish and shrimp. Pond design, water quality and shrimp health management practices are very important as part of ‘Good Aquaculture Practice’. If good practice is followed in these cases, the quality and food security of the fish and shrimp produced will undoubtedly be maintained. The best practices to follow in quality shrimp production are discussed below-
- Good practice regarding farm location

Fisheries and fish products are one of the export products of Bangladesh. Our country's fish and fish products are mainly exported to the European Union countries, the United States, Japan, Russia, Australia and Canada. These countries are very much aware of their public health issues, especially the excessive presence of chemicals. Preparation of National Residue Control Plan in Bangladesh to prevent the presence of various harmful chemicals in fish and fisheries products due to use at production stage or synthesis naturally or due to post-harvest management error or use or infection at processing stage. Done. Residue testing of our chemical contaminants, identification of sources of contamination and taking action accordingly are done following the regulations of the importing countries. Under this, fish / shrimp and water are collected from a certain number of fences / ponds every year and chemical tests are done. The aim is to reduce the presence of harmful chemicals in fish and shrimp to zero or allowable levels through monitoring and control measures. If the NRCP proves for several years in a row that the fish and fish products produced in the country do not contain prohibited / harmful substances or are within the approved levels, then pre-export testing may not be required.
